Bingo throws Mii-branded balls into a gigantic tumbler and as each one is selected each player marks their cards with the matching Mii to form a full row across, down, or diagonal, and the appearance of a game ball will whisk everyone off to one of the mini-games in Wii Party.

For the quicker and more energetic experience you get two "game show" like productions. The Globe Trot spreads the board out across the entire world and replaces dice throws with a basic card game. Roll the dice, romp across the spaces, take your bonus and/or penalty, and then compete in a mini-game to snag a dice. If you've got a lot of time on your hands there's two separate board games that intersperse mini-games with the dice rolls and it's here that many of the Mario Party comparisons will come from. With that said, there's a lot for the four player groups. Wii Party, like most "Party" style games, really only opens up when you get four players and a Wii remote for each of them – if you can't max out the seats with friends I really wouldn't recommend this game. Even with computer AI taking over for the unused spots, Wii Party is designed around the multiplayer experience and just isn't that much fun if you have no friends to share in the fun. It's pure, safe, inoffensive fun that has a lot for you and your friends to explore, but doesn't have much in the way of personality. There's a huge assortment of quick shot mini-games and various ways to play these games, along with strange Wii remote gimmicks that happen outside of the core experience. There's no big surprise here: it's a good game for the family and party settings that have multiple Wii remotes. Wii Party is, essentially, Mario Party without the Mushroom Kingdom pizzazz, where Miis take the place of the Mario crew and the generic, inoffensive style of Wii Sports, Wii Music, and Wii Fit is the setting. The last game – Mario Party 8 - didn't fair too well in our ranks, either, and maybe that helped sway the powers that be to give the decade long Nintendo/Hudson partnership a break. I wouldn't be surprised to discover that the brand is the most used in all of Nintendo's library. "Eight is enough, guys." There have been that many console versions of the Mario Party franchise and even a handful more across the handheld platforms. (14m), designed to appeal to a wider audience.Perhaps someone at Nintendo stepped in and said it. Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime described Wii Party, which is being developed by Nd Cube, as another "bridge title", similar to Mario Kart (22 million sales) and New Super Mario Bros. The latter is where Miis tackle the 70 mini-games, like shooting down floating balloons and playing virtual tag. Miis can get involved too in games like Balance Boat and Board Game Island. Another mode is hide-and-seek where, yes, the other players leave the room and you hide the remotes. Each one then emits a different animal noise, and the first player to pick up the remote emitting the noise of the animal on-screen wins. Press materials released after the conference confirmed that up to four people play together and there are some details on mini-games and the rules in general.Īpparently one game involves four players each placing their Wii remote on a corner of the table (table sold separately yo). It really features 13 party games and over 70 mini-games. It's called, as you may remember, Wii Party, and it features gorgeous people in lifestyle lounges- wait, sorry, that was just the press conference demo. Nintendo has announced that its new Wii party game compilation, announced in Japan recently, is due out "this holiday".
